General Information
- This is a limited enrollment program. Course requires instructor’s consent.
- Applications, assessments and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis
during the year. Call (847) 635-1461 for an appointment.
- The Basic Nurse Assistant Training program (BNA 100) is offered as a 6 semester
credit hour course in conjunction with BNA 105
(1 additional semester credit hour).
- The course is offered
- As a 10 week Daytime Program
- Four times a year – January, April, June, October
- Four times a week (Monday – Thursday plus 5 Fridays)
- 9 AM to 3 PM
- As a 16 week Weekend Program
- Two times a year – January and August
- Friday and Monday evenings (4:00 – 9:00 PM) and Saturdays (8AM – 3:30 PM)
- As a 16 week Evening Program
- Two times a year - January and August
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings (4:00 - 9:00 PM)
- The student is required to:
- Submit the results of a recent physical examination by a doctor (M.D.)
or nurse practitioner. The physical examination must include:
- TB test or chest x-ray results
- Rubella, Rubeola and Varicella titers, and proof of immunizations
if indicated
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Medical clearance from M.D. or nurse practitioner stating that you
are physically able to undertake BNAT and work as a nurse’s
aide after completing the program
- Oakton Community College Health History form completed and signed
by you (Health requirements must be completed before a student can
attend the clinical portion of the program)
- Complete a criminal background check application during the first week
of the program.
- Classes for all programs are held at the Ray Hartstein Campus in Skokie.
Clinical experience is offered at local nursing homes and hospitals. Students
must provide their own transportation between the college campus and the clinical
agencies.
- There are three components of the course: theory, lab practice, and clinical.
Students must maintain a C or better average throughout the course and pass
all three components in order to complete the course.
- A Career Day is held at the end of the course to assist students in obtaining
a CNA position in local nursing homes, hospitals or home care agencies.
